REMOTE TEACHING

Our scheme is primarily designed to be delivered in-person. However, adapting our resources to remote or hybrid teaching is simple. All of our resources are available online, including the story books, decodable books and other supplementary resources, which means that they can be easily distributed to learners at home.

Synchronous and Asynchronous Teaching

Although we advocate that the majority of phonics teaching should be delivered though synchronous, whole-group, teacher-led sessions, we understand that there may be circumstances where an asynchronous, multiple group or distance-learning approach will need to be used.

Our lesson plans are laid out so that teachers and other adults can follow them to model skills, including but not limited to sounding out pronunciations, segmenting and blending. Our downloadable resources can be used to model these skills in an asynchronous teaching environment too.

Where a synchronous session is not possible, teachers can select one of our digital resources to deliver key content. Our pronunciation videos can be used to model sounds and our animations can be used to model letter formation, these can be sent in lieu of the teacher model accompanied by relevant online or downloadable activities for the children to complete.

Online Resources

Many of our resources, such as our teaching books, decodable reading books, letter formation animations and songs are available online so can be accessed by children either directly or via a shared screen. It is up to individual teachers and their knowledge of their setting to decide the best way to deploy resources.

Digital Games

To support our teaching materials, we have produced a series of online digital games to reinforce learning. These are clearly linked to individual grapheme-phoneme pairs and are assignable via the EdShed Teacher Hub.

Hybrid Teaching

Where teaching has to be split between remote and in-person teaching, the adaptability and flexibility of delivery options within our scheme enable all children to receive equitable teaching and access to learning.
